Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

About Doane Pond

Doane Pond is situated inside the majestic Doane Valley in Palomar Mountain.  This is one of the easiest hikes around, being .1 miles from the parking lot!

Doane pond is regularly stocked for trout by the Department of Fish and Game.   If you are over 16, you must have a valid California fishing license. There is no size limit but the catch limit is 5.  There are many great hiking trails that all begin from the same parking lot including the Weir and French Valley trails.

It is pretty common to see deer out here grazing, living free & wild.  This area is so beautiful and never ceases to leave me in a state of awe through its ever-changing beauty.

While you’re in the area, make sure to hike to the Weir nearby!

I highly recommend everyone take at least one day trip out here to see what I am talking about!  Although beautiful all year long, my favorite times to visit are winter-spring.

Doane Pond, as well as Doane Valley, were named after George Doane, one of the mountain’s earliest pioneers.  He, along with Nate Harrison, is said to be one of the most colorful personalities on the mountain and known for being the the “hairiest person ever known in these parts.”
