Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

CHECK OUT OUR GUIDE ON ALL THE HIDDEN GEMS IN BALBOA PARK FOR AN AMAZING DAY TRIP!

Florida canyon has been well preserved as what San Diego must have looked like hundreds of years ago. Native shrub such as sage-scrub and other chaparral vegetation will be present throughout your hike. Recently, the park was upgraded to appeal for bicyclists as well with ascents and descents and irregular surfaces. This is a great training area for bikers and joggers. For those drawn to more colorful beauty, keep your eyes peeled! There is a secret tunnel with graffiti and on the northeast end, many non-native plants have been planted. It is like a small, tropical oasis!

This is actually an extension of Balboa Park, along with Golden Hill Park and the Marston Canyon, which many don't realize.  I visited in late winter when all the flowers were beginning to bloom so we had an enjoyable and colorful experience. There are a ton of trails, great for biking with slight endurance. You'll probably have to cross several streets to continue on your hike so be safe! There are many entrances, we happened to enter from Upas street.

If you enter the canyon from Upas St. (cross street Park Blvd.) you will be greeted with the most colorful variety of plants. I counted probably 20 different varieties, making this a really beautiful beginning to our hike. These were all planted a long time ago by a man named Jesus who is now in his 80's (I was told this by one of the neighbors).
