CHECK OUT OUR GUIDE ON ALL THE HIDDEN GEMS IN LA JOLLA FOR AN AMAZING DAY TRIP!

San Diego's coast is filled with many amazing tide pools and caves. This page is specifically dedicated to the caves and tide pools in La Jolla. These are low tide adventures, which often happen in the winter when the tides are super low during the day! La Jolla's coast is large so you will probably need multiple trips to explore it all. It is amazing how many new opportunities sprout up when the tide goes down though. These photos are taken at many different tidepools in La Jolla.

Two great caves to visit in La Jolla are the Sunny Jim Cave, which is accessed through a shell shop, and the White Lady Cave, which can only be accessed during low tide.

We did one of our Music Sessions here with violinist Jamie Shadowlight.  Check it out!

You may come across some pretty impressive homes along the coastline during your exploration!

The house to the right was supposedly Dr. Seuess'!

My buddy Pacifico helped me identify a lot of the creatures we came across. Here is a Horn shark egg case:

Abalone shell:

Wavy Turban Snail:

Apparently these rocks you see in the picture below were once smooth in rivers and traveled from Mexico through movement of tectonic plates. This happened over millions of years. Our coastal land is still moving north about 1 inch per year. Amazing! You can read more about it here.

Conspicuous Chiton:

Wavy Turban Snail:
