Oceanside's Heritage Park is a representation of what the area looked like over a century ago. The park was created in the 1970's as part of the nation's bicentennial celebration and is open to the public with several museums and a beautiful gazebo perfect for events. The historic buildings featured here were relocated from various parts of Oceanside.  San Diego actually has several heritage parks, the other one we've visited being in Old Town.

The park contains well-known Oceanside landmarks, such as Libby Schoolhouse, "The Blade Tribune" newspaper printing office, and the train depot with an impressive model railroad. There is also an old jailhouse you can visit.  Interior tours are offered during the weekends on a volunteer basis.

Personal Experience: I've visited the San Luis Rey Mission around the corner many times and had no clue that this little gem of a park existed.  It's my personal mission to cover as many places of historical significance in San Diego and especially important to help keep historical museums around.  These places usually are run by volunteers so it takes people like us to keep them going.

Seeing the old city jail was fun:

I'm really curious about this graveyard.  It was locked up.  I hope to one day get to visit it up close:

I adored the model railroad depot:

This is actually a miniature replica of Heritage Park: Oceanside's Heritage Park is a representation of what the area looked like over a century ago.
