About Sycuan Casino: Sycuan casino, located in El Cajon, is not only one of San Diego’s premier casinos but also ones of the oldest too! Starting off as a Bingo Palace in 1983, no one could have guessed it would grow into the giant it is today. There are slot machines, poker tournaments, bingo, baccarat and blackjack, but they offer so much more than just gambling! They truly put in great efforts to cater to so many different walks of life.
This is such a fun getaway without actually leaving San Diego County. The casino recently completed a 260 million dollar expansion project in late 2019 featuring a 12-story luxury hotel with over 300 guest rooms and 57 suites.

The upgrade is definitely a sight to behold so if you haven’t visited recently, make sure to come and check it out! Sycuan is proud to have been recognized for their amenities and exceptional service through the AAA Four Diamond Rating.
About Retreat Pool: An expansive pool deck is furnished with pool chairs, oversized daybeds and cabanas, so you can choose your own adventure and experience. Fresh, seasonal fare can be found on their daily menu alongside signature cocktails and an expansive spirits list.
This is also the only venue in San Diego that offers poolside gaming with a view! Enjoy playing your favorite table games in their brand new card room that’s only a few steps away from their beautiful outdoor aquatic oasis.

About the Sycuan Tribe: The Sycuan tribe are 1 of 12 bands which make up the Kumeyaay nation. The Kumeyaay people have lived in San Diego County for more than 12,000 years. I feel it is of the utmost importance for those of us living on their native land to pay our respects to their people. We can start by educating ourselves on their story.
Our People. Our History. Our Culture tells the story of Sycuan and the Kumeyaay nation through the words of its people—Tribal elders, Council leaders, family members and the next generation. This short film brought out so many emotions in me and I highly recommend everyone to find some time to watch it.
These are the views from the window near the elevator on our floor (floor 11):
And some of the artwork near the elevators. The casino hired local Indigenous artists for all the artwork in the hotel:
Headed back down to the casino!
The first thing we did after we unpacked was eat dinner at the beautiful Bull & Bourbon restaurant. It was dimly lit, swanky and had stunning views of the pool below:
Check out our views from the restaurant!
We started the next morning off with breakfast at Viewpoint Neighborhood Kitchen. I got the french toast and pineapple juice:
Afterwards I headed out to my spa appointment at Spa Ritual. This experience blew me away and was sooo much more than I expected! This was more like a full-blown spa getaway. Here is the locker room which included a gorgeous hot tub, sauna, steam room, showers and extremely high-tech toilets that automatically change the seat cover once you get up. You also get to wear a robe and slippers. So fancy!
Trust me when I say to get to your appointment early. I’d say at least 30 minutes to “prep” your skin for your treatment. The heat and steam will open up your pores and help you get all soft and dewy!
Here was the treatment room I was in. I got the oxygen facial which used some fancy machine to make my skin look about 10 years younger than it did when I first arrived!
The photo on the left is of the lounge where you wait to be called to your treatment and on the right is a shot of me after my facial. I felt so fresh!
Afterward we headed down to Retreat Pool! People were having a blast down here! It was so nice to see everyone so happy and enjoying life, especially after all we collectively went through in 2020. Something about that lazy river turned every adult into a giddy child. It was so adorable!
Drinks can even be ordered from a bar which you swim right up to! So cool!
The large screen to the left plays sports throughout the day:
We got a cabana even! These are great to rent out with a group of friends, for special events or even just to be a little extra!
We then headed back inside to get ready for dinner. There is live entertainment constantly going on. Everyone was dancing and having such a great time:
We had dinner at Viewpoint again and ate on the patio. The restaurant definitely lives up to its name with fantastic views! My partner was stoked because he got to watch the UFC fight from our table from the huge screen below at Retreat Pool:
We ate real good this weekend!
We ended the night playing Bad Bingo which is probably the best $20 you can spend if you want to gamble in the most entertaining way ever. The drag performances were TOP notch. I mean some of the ladies were literally doing gymnastic moves in HEELS!! And bingo is so much fun as is. In a lot of ways, this trip took me back to sweet parts of my childhood: bingo, lazy rivers and casinos. We went to Vegas a lot when I was younger.
Thank you so much Sycuan for an unforgettable weekend! Til next time!
