Hello everyone! This is a friendly reminder that any of these fun places we may visit, we are a guest at. Please treat both businesses and trails with the utmost respect. We here at Hidden San Diego follow the 'Leave no Trace' mantra, meaning whatever you bring with you comes back with you. If you see trash on a trail, please do your part to help remove it. Remember, we are not picking up trash from another person but instead cleaning up for Mother Nature. Happy adventures!

History of Town & Country Resort:

It's hard to imagine what Mission Valley looked like before it became a merging of freeways and one of the most highly dense areas in the vicinity.  The area is just bursting with things to do. But if you go back less than 100 years ago, you will learn that this area was once a thriving agricultural region.

With the San Diego river running right through it, Mission Valley made an ideal range for raising livestock and growing produce. This area is also a stone's throw away from the first Kumeyaay village Kosa'aay, whom also lived along the once clean and lush river.

So being that this was once considered the countryside, it only made sense that the first hotel in this area wanted to pay homage to what would quickly fade into the past.  Founded in 1953 by businessman Charlie Brown, Town and Country was quite literally a town within the country. At one point this was actually a destination spot, where now it is in the heart of it all.

Town & Country Resort Today:

As of 2020, Town and Country has received a HUGE multi-million dollar makeover!  When we visited during the summer of 2021, there was construction still happening directly next door on a massive building so please keep this in mind if you visit around this time period.

The vibes are very retro San Diego in my opinion which is super cool!  It feels like you stepped back into the 70's! The grounds are massive and filled with so many pockets to explore which include four lively eateries and a lounge, three pools, Twister the 4-story waterslide, sand volleyball court, and fire pits. They also host some great events such as Tiki Oasis!

Keep in mind that this is a VERY family-friendly resort.  There will be children everywhere. I know that's not for everyone which is why I mention it.  But if you are a family or just enjoy family vibes, this very well may be the resort for you!  The kids all looked like they were having a BLAST and making a ton of great memories.

You can check out all the room options here. We stayed in their Snazzy 1 King which comes with a wet bar, private balcony.  Other amenities for every room include:

Dining:

Town and Country Resort actually has 5 eateries and a lounge, all open at various hours throughout the morning and evening to keep you satisfied until the late hours! The five restaurants included are ARLO, Lapper, Lap it Up, MRKT and Monkey Bar. We ate at both ARLO and the Monkey Bar and both were delicious, gourmet experiences.  Paired with the resort views made for some very enjoyable and relaxing meals!

The interior decorating of the lounge was so well done, I could not stop taking photos!

The hallways had their own retro flair too which I enjoyed:

And parts of our delicious meals.  That crème brûlée was memorable and I definitely want to go back for more!

I was dealing with a head/neck injury during this trip so couldn't go down the slide.  My partner did and had a blast though!

I, on the other hand, did a lot of relaxing:

The next morning we ate lunch at the Monkey Bar:

Til next time!
