From Wikipedia: Mount Soledad is a prominent landmark in San Diego. The mountaintop is the site of the Mount
Soledad cross, the subject of a 25-year controversy over the involvement of religion in government (correctly stated "the involvement of government in religion" since the First Amendment attempts to restrict government interference in religion, not the other way around), which concluded in 2016.
Personal Experience: Wow, talk about a view! Mt. Soledad offers a stunning panoramic glimpse of San Diego. To the north and west stretches the palm tree dotted Pacific Beach coastline up to and including the beautiful bluffs at Torrey Pines. Charming local landmarks such as UCSD and the San Diego California Temple stud the valley below, creating an aesthetic inundation; while to the south and east one is able to watch greater San Diego light up after sunset, or catch a view that reaches clear to Mexico on a day with good visibility. Come here to catch the sunset and be sure to bring your camera!
